Solidarity in a Time of Displacement
In this episode, Adaku and Loidymar explore the fight for dignity, land, and belonging in Puerto Rico, from challenging U.S. colonial policies to practicing transformative solidarity by following youth leaders reclaiming their future.
ABOUT THE GUEST
Loidymar is co-founder and program manager of La Tejedora. She is a young Afro-Puerto Rican woman, graduated in Political Science with a specialization in Government, Law and Public Policy from the University of Puerto Rico. She produced the documentary “El Último Timbre”, a film that addresses the massive closure of schools and the austerity measures imposed by the PROMESA law. In recent years, she worked at Open Society Foundations, where she coordinated and supported young fellows between 18 and 35 years old in the execution of community projects focused on social justice and human rights in the archipelago of Puerto Rico. She is committed to the process of self-determination in Puerto Rico, as well as sexual and reproductive rights, racial justice and gender equity. Currently, she has received training in community organizing and has distinguished herself as a leader and mentor of young people. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach with her friends, practicing yoga and spending time with her dog Piru.
